My Dream Christmas Vacation
Student Prompt:
Santa Claus has decided to send your family on a holiday dream vacation during Christmas, but your parents want to stay at home and celebrate Christmas in the traditional way. You want to travel to a foreign country you've been studying about in school. Write a letter persuading your mother and father to accept your plans for the BEST FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVER!
Which country should I go to?
Choose one of the countries your teacher gives you. You will need to find information about this country to use in your letter to your parents. Make sure you find information about the following things: location of your country (which continent, etc.), languages spoken, foods, tourist areas, brief history, and any other interesting facts. How will I be graded?
Make sure you include all required portions of the prompt in your letter (FAT-P). Also make sure you check the evaluation scoring guide below when you have finished with your rough draft before you type your letter.
Evaluation Scoring Guide:  
Heading - contains address, city, state, zip code, date with correct location, captitalization, puncuation , and spelling 5
Greeting - contains salutation, name with correct location, captitalization puncuation and spelling . 5
Body - two paragraph, indented correctly, correct location, capitalization, puncuation and spelling. 5
Closing - correct location, captitalization puncuation and spelling . 5
Signature - in cursive, hand written, correct location, captitalization puncuation and spelling . 5
Pre-writing - Persuasion Map or Concept web is present.

Research - Notes on research are turned in with letter. Notes are legible and address all required areas of information: location of your country (which continent, etc.), languages spoken, foods, tourist areas, brief history, and any other interesting facts. 10
FAT-P - Response is in the correct format (letter), addresses the correct audience (your parents), addresses the topic (travel to another country), and is written with the correct purpose (to persuade) 10
Content - Letter contains three paragraphs. The first paragraph recaps what happened and why you are traveling out of the country. The second paragraph gives some information about the country. The third paragraph lists at least 4 reasons to visit that country. Creative, orginal, and persuasive writing is present. 40
Picture - Completed picture of the flag of your country accompanies your letter. The location of the picture is logical and not distracting. 10
